Battle Of The E.P Bands!!! (Part 1)

Ah the E.P, the wonder that is the 4-7 song epic to show what you got. Is it just me or are E.P's becoming increasingly used before full lengths?? Bands now tease us for those few month, sometimes a a year to test our commitment before hitting us with some L.P fulllength lovin! Today on show are two bands that serve the E.P proud. I've been digging both these bands a lot and cant wait for some more output from them, even if it mean a another E.P.

Voxtrot :

This bands made the rounds but after getting both their E.P's im really impressed, solid songwriting, catchy hooks, a nod to nostalgia and just a lot of fun. These guys are from Texas and were quite the hit at SXSW this year, rightly so too! Check em out :

Voxtrot - Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives
Voxtrot - The Start Of Something **Highly recommended

And the Rivals - Cold War Kids

Not rivals so much as peers, this band from Fullerton CA (where my bro lives!!) are class. A cross between Jack Whites Vocals and Spoons musical leanings. Great songs from start to finish with no filler (Can there be filer on an EP??) Have to say im quite the fan of this band!! I like their open use of instruments and little piano touches.

Cold War Kids - Tell Me In The Morning
Cold War Kids - hospital Beds
Cold War Kids - Hang Me Up To Dry **Highly Recommended

Both These Bands are worth your listening time so give em a chance

The Figurines

I've had the Figurines album Skeleton for about 2 months, it has a US/Canadian release now but has been doing well in their homeland (Denmark) for a while. This is one of those albums which I liked when I first heard and kept coming back to. Its that ' What will I listen to?' album and always comes out on top. Hooks galore, nothing amazingly innovative but just solid. Its a great album from start to finish and the band mix it up musically enough to keep you goin. The lead singers voice is very Neil Young at times which I dig too! Check these two songs out and see if you get hooked :

The Figurines - The Wonder
The Figurines - Rivalry

Think About Life

Lookin forward to the release of this one, release - May 2nd!! I heard one of their songs (What The Future Might Be) over at Gorilla Vs Bear and hadn't heard anything like it in a while, thrashy/electro/hip-hop/pop. The song kinda had the same effect as the first time I heard the crazy keyboard intro for 'I'll Belive In Anything' by the Wolf Parade. But instead of a wall of guitar a nice beat and bass bursts in. Subtitle mc's on the track, dont worry tho non hip-hop fans it suits just fine, just listen to it. (G Vs B still has the song up)

Check the bands Myspace for info and another song stream.... Here
It'll be intresting to hear the whole album but between 'What The Future Might Be' and 'Paul Cries' I cant wait.

Think About Life - Paul Cries
Think About Life - Snowee Cat

Side note, how cool is the album art work!!

Wolf Parade - Modern World Video

Wow, this is one of the best videos i've seen in so long, just when you think all the fresh idead are out!! I wouldnt care what song this video is for but the fact that its the Wolf Parade's 'Modern World' makes watching it looped way more enjoyable. Great stop motion use, amazing detail and a great little story. The band 'live' scene is briliant!! My hats off to Adam Bizanski! Opinions??

Download it HERE **High quality 45mb .Mov

Stuff that should have been posted.....

Heres the last couple days worth of stuff

I'll start with the new walkmen song......Same but different. My friend pointed out that their great for taking one line and repeating it til it becomes cool.....in this case "I got my hands full" Also its true, yes theres horns!!! Take them as you may?!
Matt over at YANP has the stream ripped and ready for d/l. Thank him while your there.

A lot of people lookin for this one - New Flaming Lips At War With The Mystics **Dir is v-fast at time of post

Explosions In The Sky & Damien Rice in Here. Im realy diggin EITS at the minute. Dont remember this album in their discography tho, no time to d/l it myself. Is it live?

Last but not least, im jumpin on the bandwagon, Band of Horses are great. I gave the album a good week before making judgement but it really is a solid album. Not earth shattering but a very nice listen. Yo La Tengo fuzz meet The Shins pop smarts with the energy/voice of My Morning Jacket. All bands I love, whats not to like??

Band Of Horses - Funeral
